we are swapping a new slant into a 63 a100 pickup, it has a 3 on the tree manual transmission, the 74 dart that we got the engine out of was an automatic, do we need to change the flywheel or not? thanks |

You'll need a 1968+ flywheel the same size as the one in the truck since the crank flange changed. You will also have to inspect the pocket on the 74 to see if it has a finished pilot hole or not...probably not, in which case you'll need to have it finished, or use a special pilot bushing to fit the hole. (Someone here might have that part number for you off hand.) -D.Idiot |

If the pocket is not finished, you can either get the NAPA bushing for the unfinished hole or just get a roller bearing for a V-6 or V-8 Dakota truck. If the cavity is not completely driller you may have to trim the end off the pilot on the input too.

use the newer style roller bearing setup if you can. the way it fits in the crankshaft actually makes it fit further back on the input shaft where there won't be any of the wear that 40+ years of use and abuse can cause. they're inexpensive too. i think i bought one a couple of years ago for about 10 bucks. -james |
