The A/C on my Duster blows water out of the air vents. It will not drain itself of the water it accumulates until you switch the A/C off. I ran it today for an hour without shutting it off and it started to blow water out the vents and it started to leak out from around the top of the box. I stopped and switched it off and about a quart of water gushed out of the drain tube. Why isn't this thing draining while it is running?

Clogged condensate drain tube. Tough to find but if you look at the bottom of the firewall or at the very bottom of the A/C box behind the dash you will find it. Small diameter tube, about 5/16". Get under the car, find the end of it and probe it with an unbent coat hanger wire to get the trash out of it.

Tube isn't clogged. After it drained in 20 minutes time it was full again and spraying the inside of the car with water. Is there a valve or something inside the box? I can hear water sloshing around inside of it.

No valve, but there could be a buildup of goop around the perimeter of the upper end of the hose such that the water that accumulates can't properly drain into the top end of the hose and thereby drip out the bottom end. Could also be scunge buildup on the evaporator coil itself, which will tend to hold water in the airstream that would otherwise drip down the coil fins and onto the floor of the evaporator housing. Either way, "some disassembly required".

If you can hear water sloshing about then the drain is clogged somewhere. My 69 Dart used to dump a cupful or more of water into the passer flooreverytime I turned a corner. When I finally took it aprt to fix it I found a bunch of rotted leaves and debris in the pan that were clogging the drain. Clean it all up and it was fine after that.
