I bought a '85 Dodge truck last year and I'm trying to fix what ails it.

1) My head lights go out as I'm driving down the road and then turn back on. Could it be the dimmer switch? Bad ground?

2) Could anybody tell me which carberator I have--It has no tag but there is a Soliniod(?) mounted on the back of the carb. I need to do something with this carb/motor as I'm getting 13 or low 14 mpg.

Any suggestions would help.

The light problem could be in the light switch, the headlight switch, a ground or other connection.

I had the same problem with my '87 D150's headlights, it turned out to be the dimmer switch on the floor going bad.

Your carb is most likely a Holley 1945, but if you have a california emissions model, it may be a Holley 6145. From your description, it is most likely the former. As already said, a picture would help greatly in identifying the carburetor.

Also I do agree that the problem might be the dimmer switch afectting headlights (that was the case with my 1970 Duster, had to use my hazard lights to drive home!).[/img]
