Some one said I needed to adjust the acclerator pump on my '65 Valiant with BBS.

1. How do you do that intelligently?

2. Wouldn't sloppy links make such adjustments almost useless?

3. Would a DGEV be a much superior carb fror this?

Well, there are three holes in the throttle lever into which the accelerator pump link can be installed. The inboard hole (closest to the throttle shaft) gives the shortest pump stroke, and the outboard hole gives the longest pump stroke. If that does not allow you to attain the required adjustment (per service manual procedures -- this is measured by installing the bowl vent cap clip in the correct slot of the accel pump stem and then measuring the height of the cap above the airhorn top surface with the throttle closed), then you can achieve additional adjustment by bending the "elbow" of the accelerator pump linkage.

If the linkages are properly assembled, the adjustments definitely have an effect. Again assuming proper assembly, what you are perceiving as "slop" is deliberate.

That depends on the condition of the BBS and the condition of the DGEV! The BBS, in good repair and adjustment, is a good 1bbl carb.

Thanks for the setup info.

Of course to compare the carbs I'd assume them to be in similar good condition and setup. But I don't see the wire parts on the Weber like I see on the Carter. When I was a kid on the farm we used wire to cobble things together temporarily, not to make them.

Practically, my BBS is an AA refurb and I'm having a time getting it set up and having it stay that way. I think I have it right one day and things change the next day. Especially with hesitation. Smooth one day jumping the next. I think I'm jinxed.
