Post subject:  Brake Prices

Hi Folks,

I need to change a leaky front brake cylinder, it has a chip in the bore and is not rebuildable. I also need to change one rear cylinder with a twisted off bleed screw...

Why are the front wheel cylinders for my '68 Dart 4x the price of the back wheel cylinders? (9" all the way around).

I just bought most of this shopping list at RockAuto, and here are the prices I paid. All P/Ns are Raybestos, and I picked the premium option in every case ("PG Plus" shoes, cylinders, etc.):

Spring kit, whole axle, front & rear same, H7170: $5.43/ea
Wheel cylinder, rear, LH=RH, WC34876, $7.85/ea
Wheel cylinder, front right, WC37102, $26.79
Wheel cylinder, front left, WC37103, $26.79
Shoe set, front, 329PG, $22.99
Shoe set, rear, 330PG, $22.79
Hose, flex, front brake, LH=RH, BH36654, $9.48/ea

I didn't buy the self-adjust kits and probably should've for a complete brake renewal. Note I bought the H7170 spring kits rather than the H7130; the 7170 is originally for Dodge Dakota 9" rear brakes, and has some better-designed, heavier-duty springs in the mix, with full compatibility to the older 9" brakes.

Hey Dan. is that in U.S dollars or Canadian? I just like your prices better. Cost of everything in the SF bay area seems to be higher

Post subject:  thx for this kist

thx for this list.

Finally i have a bit of time to work further on my 69 Dart GT.
Needs total rebuild of the brakes before i put it on the road.

i surfed to Rockauto but couln't figure out what parts i needed and what the differences were between them.

so i figure this list will help me out just fine.

no brakes = no green paper = no insurances = no roadlegal car = no fun
i hope to get this done by summer.

thx dan and co

I would love to do the disc brake swap, and I have a 73 Valiant with power discs all lined up as a donor car. Unfortunately I have to get the drums functioning well so I can drive the car home (200 miles from Seminary here in MA) to do the swap.

Of course, taking Hebrew this summer doesn't help my schedule, nor does the incessant rain in New England this year... :(
