Post subject:  FED/RED questions.

In the "Stroking a Slant" string on engines page, it was mentioned about looking for a FED chassis.

I have been mentally toying with the idea of a rear-engined digger, (slant powered, of course), and remembered that Seymour had mentioned somebody had had one in years past. (This is a possible future project.)

I am now wondering......does a RED work with a slant power train? If not, what are the problem areas? I can't help but think it would work quite well, set up as an econo-dragster type system.

I know where I can get an 8.8" Ford rear WITH the disc brakes, for a pretty good price, and I'm thinking that I can use a slant and 904, hook the assembly to the rear with a single u-joint, and start building a chassis.

Seems to me it would work, but maybe I'm overlooking something obvious.

Charles Meyer had an RED. Problem with trying to use a 904 with the normal tailshaft is that it puts the motor way too far forward. Charles had a special shorty tailshaft made for his.

There is a Slant powered FED in Iowa now. It is owned by Mark Dingbaum and was originally built by Dick Weber. :shock:

You can call A&A Transmission. I know he had a short tailshaft for a 904 at one time. He may even make something like that...I will look in his catalog.

Where does Mark Dingbaum race, Eddyville, Humbolt, Cedar Falls? Makes me wish I still lived in Iowa, even with the ice and snow. It seems like everyone down here races a Chev. in their dragster/roadster.

I'm still in the planning stages too, just for reference; what's the most I should pay for a rolling chassis?
