Post subject:  Kickdown Linkage Question

I see this forum is filled with people trying to figure out how to properly install the kickdown linkage when converting to a super six. I am glad to realize I am not alone in my ignorance of the specifics of a mopar transmission.

I finally installed my super six intake, headers, and 2 bbl, but am confused when trying to properly install the kickdown linkage. The rod is off a super six aspen and fits with the bracket, but thats where the similarity ends. The bracket seems to be hitting itself (the rod just dosent seem to be long enough). I placed the rod in the cube and pressed the transmission kickback lever toward the front and than tightened it. However, when I press the carb. throttle toward the firewall *like it would do if i were driving* the rod only seems to push the kickback lever to its standby position. My questions are this
1) Does the kickback lever need to move all the way back to intiate the passing gear
2) Do I need to fabricate a longer rod to compensate for the bracket hitting itself
3) What is the friggin' purpose of the spring between the cube and the rod which moves the kickback lever

*I would really appreciate some feedback on this and would be more than happy to clarify any part of this explanation which I most certainly could have goofed up. Thanks slant sixers 8)
