Post subject:  alternator, starter, or battery?

the slant in my 70 dart still refuses to start. Before I attempt to start it the oil light is on, and the alt gauge is in the middle. Then when I turn the key to start it I hear a rapid clicking sound comming from the left side of the car. the oil light flickers rapidly and the alt gauge moves back and forth rapidly, but alas there is no turnover. Can someone here help me? I already tried charging the battery, still nothing.

side note- what is the thing on the fire wall on the drivers side? its an almost rectangular metal thing with wires plugged into it. theres also one in my trunk, in a box.

Bad + and/or - battery cable, bad battery, or bad starter.

Not enough info. There are lots of metal almost rectangular things with wires plugged in on the firewall on the driver's side. Which specific ones you have depend on your car's equipment and modifications.

Number of wires? If it's got 4 or 5, it's likely the ignition module (if you have electronic ignition). If it's only 2 (or you don't have EI), it's probably the voltage regulator.
