Post subject: | 66 Dart Radiator Swap? |
My 66 Dart is in need of a radiator replacement. My local guys are quoting 400 plus dollars to recore my old unit. Has anyone swapped in a later model radiator without major fit problems? The Volare/ Aspen radiators look like they might be a good candidate. My current radiator has a 22 inch wide core. Thanks for any responses/replies! Todd |

Shee-yoot! You can get a brand-new all-aluminum, TIG-welded radiator for $400. $600 for a recore is way out of line, probably means they don't want to do it. You can probably kludge an Aspen/Volare radiator in, but you can get a brand new Spectra Premium CU527 radiator from www.partsamerica.com ,think that's Pep Boys or maybe AutoZone's website, for $289. That's a very close match to what you need for your '66, it's spec for a '70 Dart with heavy-duty cooling and/or AC, correct dimensions, minor bracket mods needed (enlarge or redrill mounting holes). Also will need to switch to '70 Dart lower radiator hose due to different radiator outlet pipe angle, no big deal. Don't discard that original '66 radiator, whatever you do. Sooner or later it will become worthwhile to have those big round top tanks reproduced...I've been thinking about it myself, in fact. |

Be sure to shop for more than just price. There are a lot of low-quality Chinese radiators hitting the market these days |

Local radiator shop recored my 65 round top radiator for a shade under $300 and that was for a 3 core at that (core itself was from a company out of Canada). Sounds like your radiator shop is way out of line on prices. |
