Ok, here goes. I have a street and strip gutted out '71 duster. And am planning an engine rebuild for it and here's some specs... .040 over 225 *hooker super comp headers *ported head with 1.70/1.44 valves and milled to get around 9.5.1 comp. *double roller timing set *Offy intake w/500 cfm holley 2 barrel carb I already own an erson cam that measures .510/.510 with a duration of *242 on intake and *246 @.050. I believe the LSA is 108. Im gonna be running a 904 with a higher stall with this cam and the rear is recently rebuilt 7.25 sure grip with 3.55's Is it to much or will it be ok??? |

Sounds like you have a good engine for the cam. I'd go for it. Your not building an engine fo gas mileage anyway!! Ha Ha!! Rick |

I wouldn't run that cam in anything with less than 11:1 static compression, 3000+ stall converter and 4.10 or steeper gears. Also the 2bbl is a poor choice. |

Lou and I have run on the street with a lot more cam than that. That cam will be right on the edge for 340 valve springs. |

I have run a Midwest 10" 3800 stall and now a Midwest 8" 4000 stall nitrous converter. I drove the car to Clay City and back with the 10" and a .511" lift Comp Cam. |

What gear were you using? Would my 3.55's be ok or am I kidding myself?? |

You'd be amazed how fast you can go with 3.55's. |

So if I got this straight you ran a cam larger than that using 3.55's??? |

Sure. I went 12:30@107 with a .558"/300* Clifford and a 150 shot w/3.55's. Car will run 14:50@92 on motor w/3.55's. Good converter is the key. Do not be afraid to run a 3000+ stall on the street with a good trans cooler. You will probably end up a lot lighter than me too. My junk weighs 3250# w/me in it. |

We are in the same mind set of thinking then, lol. You are my hero Guess I'll have to get the compression in the right range though. This is my 225 w/stock rods engine, my other 225 will be the 198 rod engine which will have more cam Well as far as weight goes. '71 Duster,no front bumper or bracket, no door panels front,no panels below quarter windows,no rear seat,no glove box or door,no sunvisors, all heater and related stuff gone,no stereo,no kick panels, carpet removed, headliner is no more, sill plates gone,Interior basically consists of 2 plastic racing buckets, dash and 5 inch tach, steering column and a billet aluminum steering wheel I got for free. one wiper arm, lol. Still looking to lose more weight by sometime adding a 'glass hood and maybe trunk lid. Plexi quarter windows. Add in my 195 pounds and Im not sure what it all comes to. Definetly fun though |

http://video.yahoo.com/video/play?vid=7 ... 467.485314 Also the 2bbl is a poor choice. (post by Joshie225) It'll need more when I get to that point but it works pretty good now! |

Seymour Pederson has been very successful with a 500 Holley 2bbl. Not my first choice, but it works very well for him. He had a 13:98 average ET last year when he ran Drag Week. |

If that is a four barrel intake i would choose a 650 cfm double pumper Holley for that app. There is a lot of tune in the 650 to git er done. Hell i was close to getting a 650 to work on a stock engine just carb and headers also any more mods that carb would work fine. I think the 7 1/4 is going to be the problem if you run slicks. If you doint run slicks spinning is going to be a problem. That is the problem with a street /strip car you can not have the best of both worlds unless you spray it and change tires. Thanks Ron Parker It Aint Over Until I Win |

That cam will work fine with 10:1 comp or higher. It's very close to what my green 64 Dart has been running with 10:1 to 10.4:1 depending on head I was using. Have run mid 14s with 3.23 gears and a 904 and 3000 stall converter. That combo would get 21-22 mpg, and gets 24-25 with the 5 speed. Only tried race gas a couple of times and ran premium except for that. Compared to a 225, most V8s need more comp to use a comparable cam. I would be happy to run a bigger cam on the street. I would recommend running 10:1 comp and 3.55 gears or higher, but I would be willling to bet it would work OK with 9.5:1. No problem with pump gas at 10:1, so why not? Lou |
