hey, yesterday i battled my 67 darts electrical system, put in a replacement fusible link, rewired the circuit that caused too much draw through it, and replaced the cable from the starter relay to the fusible link(took the whole kit n caboodle off of a 73 parts car) it started finally, with much help from slantsixdan, for yesterdays fun:http://slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=17873 and then i shut it off last night and it wasnt wanting to restart so i jumped the two connectors on the starter and it didnt start but then when i tryed the key again it worked, then it restarted several times no problems, then this am i went to start it to drive to work, and it started, then died (maybe not enough gas to start) then started and worked a bit and i drove it a bit and it died again reversed a bit, then died and nothing, lights and stuff are working(they werent yesterday) and so i came home from work, replaced the wire from the bottom of the starter relay(its brown) to the starter, replaced the starter relay too, and same thing, replaced the starter, started once, twice, three times, (it had been sitting for a while, wanted to make sure it would work) then the 4th, maybe thid, cant remember for sure, then nothing again, so im kind of stumped now, all the starter stuff is new, well newer, but should be working and newer, only guess we have is the ignition, like at the key, the oil light turns on when i try to start and thats about it doesnt really crank or anything, thanks!

"Jump the two pins on the starter then use the key" doesn't make sense to me. The moment you jump the small pin to the large pin on the starter, the starter should start cranking. Try this: Put the key in "run" (normal driving position) then jump the large stud/nut terminal to the small stud/nut terminal on the starter relay (on fenderwell next to battery). If the engine cranks and runs, get out your voltmeter, remove the two small push-on wires from the starter relay, and check for battery voltage across them when the key is in the "Start" position. If voltage there, replace the start relay. If no voltage there, check for voltage across the the + small relay wire and battery negative. If voltage there, the Neutral Safety Switch is faulty or out of adjustment. If no voltage there, the ignition keyswitch or its wiring are suspect.

it cranks when i jump it at the starter but doesnt start, if i try to start it with the key after that then it works, before that, it doesnt, doesnt make sense to me either but thats what its doing...i am not quite clear on if you mean that i should test those wires while it is running or not, with it not running, but key on, i didnt see a + sign, but i tried all of them with no charge, so it is probably the ignition, thanks dan!

It'll only start if the key is in the "run" position while you're jumping the two starter terminals.

H'mmm. My guess is a bad ignition keyswitch.

iif i turn the key on and jump it at the relay it turns on, the old starter i replaced is kind of tired sounding so i will throw the mini starter back on after work, i am also getting a new switch soon, ill give that a shot, then tackle the wiring if that doesnt fix it, it is also turning on by key randomly, so...itll make the 8 minutes drive to work and 8 back then back to the garage thanks again everyone, ill let you know if the new switch fixes it or not

I would bet on a flakey intermittant ignition keyswitch!
