I think it will become an '71 68 + 74 : 2 = 71... Ok stupid comment i admit, but have you guys located new dash bezels from anywhere else than Laysons? No one "chromes" plastic here in Finland, and ordering from Layson will duplicate the cost because of taxes, custom fees etc. I'm not whining, I'm just empty pocketed.

You can do much better than Layson's on price, with equal or better quality, by shopping around. He doesn't do this work himself, he farms it out and marks it up. And then there's this special paint which is very expensive but raises possibilities for restoration and customising that didn't exist before...

Oh yes, Cosmichrome. One guy has the equipment and skill here, but he doesn't do customer jobs anymore. I suppose his workload went skyhigh for one person after he received the equipment and the word spread around the country

Oh, interesting, this Cosmichrome is a Canadian (Quebecois) competitor to the stuff I posted about. The Cosmichrome site says "the competitive product" (I assume they mean the stuff I linked to) contains Hydrazine, of all things. Rocket fuel. Exceptionally toxic and carcinogenic, yikes.

i've never used mr g's, but have heard some bad things said of their work at a couple of carlisle events and at a marcus dairy cruise night. the standard poor treatment of customers and spotty quality seemed to be issue. i ran across this webpage when researching gauge bezel restoration http://www.rechromedplastic.8m.com/index.html
but like most stuff on the net i'd take it with a grain of salt.
there is supposed to be an awesome plastic rechroming shop in florida but the name escapes me. supposed to be a bit pricey and a year wait, but 100 point resto quality.

YIKES! I sure won't be using them anytime soon after seeing that.
On the other hand, one of the "not Mr. G's" companies they recommend is Layson's, which is not a plastic-rechroming company, but a subcontracting and marking-up company, so as you say, a grain of salt is warranted. Just based on website honesty and (just-remembered) friends' experience, I would likely give CVVP a try.
You're not thinking of Custom Coatings Corp, are you?

I've purchased twice from Mr. G's and I'm happy with their products, but I'm fortunate in that I can drive to their facility and take the pick of the litter from their supply. When I got the gauge bezel for my Valiant, he had two in stock, so I obviously picked the best one.

FWIW, you can only do so much with original plastic parts. If they are beat, cracked, chipped and warped, they can be made better, but they can't be made perfect again. As usual, those of us with Chrysler products are at a disadvantage because the supply of parts is limited. When I chose my part, he said if I had a Camaro or Chevelle, I could pick from dozens in stock. He said he has to use what he can find, or else he'd have nothing in stock.

Mr. G's is a very small operation and the facility reminds you of the typical wrecking yard, with stuff all over the place. Only the owner knows where everything is stored.

As for their service, I was treated with utmost courtesy and they were very helpful explaining what they do and how they do it. I sometimes think people expect too much from these tiny specialty services in the restoration business.

Nope, manners are always in season, but some folks expect a 40 year re-plated plastic part to look like NOS. We don't have the luxury of buying all those reproduced body parts, like the '57 Chevy owners do.
