I just installed my Clifford shorty headers. I was running a Flowmaster 40 series muffler with stock exhaust manifold and single 2" exhaust. I had the muffler shop install another 2" pipe and flowmaster muffler. Let me tell you, true duells with flowmasters sounds good at idle, but get up to 2000 rpms and the thing sounds like a gosh darn airboat! Anyone have any suggestions on mufflers for split headers and duel exhaust that will not cause me to loose my hearing? By the way, this car is a daily driver. Any help is greatly appreciated, you guys are the best. Thanks

Flowmaster has tthree models of 40 (Standard, Super & Delta Flow), one of which they claim is quieter than the others. Which one did you get?

I don't know if I'd ever get one, but I'd definitely not want the loudest ones.

I'm not sure which one it is. I have heard that the Magnaflow super turbo is pretty quiet. Anyone using these? Also thought about using a OEM replacement type for a 340 duster or dart. I just don't want to spend another $200.00 and still not like the sound.

I run a magnaflow on a single 2 1/2 set up on mine and I really like it. The only change I would have made is not to go with the turned down tip, it drones a bit at 70-75 mph.

I've never heard a Magnaflow on a slant, but a friend of mine has a Magnaflow muffler of sorts and it got louder as time went on.

I just got my car back from the exhaust shop. I'm running a stock exhaust manifold to 2 1/4" pipe through a generic turbo muffler. It's not much louder than stock, but it does give a different sound. I like it mucho with my 2-bbl carb.

I'm running Hooker headers with dual 2 1/4" Magnaflows that dump right before the rear end. It's a daily driver and I don't think it's too loud. It sounds nice and you can still carry on a conversation inside and everything. I've heard a couple people say their Magnaflows got louder as time went on, but I've had mine for about 8 months or so and they haven't gotten noticeably louder yet.

I run a FlowMaster Series 50 SUV with the Clifford Shortie Headers. I run the two into 1 to the muffler and the muffler has 2 outputs each with its own stainless tip out from under the rear wheelwell. It sounds like a small block at idle and is pretty quiet up to about 2500 RPM. After that it has a resonance that drones. At 2500 in my truck (with OD) it is going about ~85MPH. 1950 RPM @65MPH.

I like it, it is just right. :)
And it is a daily driver.

The unpleasant resonance in slant powered A bodies gets set up with big pipes. It Happens between the muffler and the end of the tail pipe. You get a standing wave in there just like a small organ pipe, and when you hit just the right rpm is hurts. I am convinced that is why Mopar put the small pipe on in the first place. Most of these cars were sold new to little old ladies who did not want a loud car.
The solution is to put a small resonator on at the end. There are companies that make side pipes for Corvettes, that will work for the last foot of your A body slant powered car and will kill that annoying drone at highway speed. I haven't done this yet, but plan to one day. Do a web search for Corvette side pipes, and see if you cannot find a guy who will make a pair of short extensions for the rearmost portion of you pipe, or pipes. If you put a turbo on, the turbo kills all of that as the turbine cuts up the exhaust resonance into smaller chunks of compression. But I still plan on doing the corvette side pipe thing at the end of my standard duals some day.
