Post subject: | question about valve springs |
Finally I got MP valve springs PN 4120249. I got them from summit. on the site specs said single coil, 1.5" OD, 1.95" uninstalled height, .206" coil wire diameter. Al of those specs are right but I found that there's another spring inside that one! can someone give me some advice on this? I'll be running an erson 270º/270º .465" lift |

That is not another spring but a spring dampner. That spring sould be fine for your app. Thanks Ron Parker It Aint Over Until I Win It Aint Over Until I Win |

pardon my ignorance... what's a spring dampner? never heard of those (neither seen them before) do they add seating power?

the dampner controls vibrations in the spring at higher rpm due to harmonics most hp springs have them. |

and since springs are most lift related rather than type of motor, it would work fine on a stock slant head, right? thanks guys

You go dude i twist that 340 moter to about 6500 it will do some serious screeming. Yes it would work fine on a Slant unless you got a race engine that has a high profile cam and is going over 6000 rpm . Thanks Ron parker. PS i always wanted to come to Argentina maybe some day. When the valve closes and hits the seat, it causes the spring to vibrate. It is much worse on cams that close the valve very quickly. Spring dampeners cancel out harmonic vibrations just like the balancer dampens out harmonic vibrations in your crankshaft. These dampeners are put there to keep the valve spring from getting excited and vibrating at some multiple of it's harmonic or natural frequency. This greatly extends the life of the spring and keeps it from fatiging and breaking. |
