I have two questions about the trim on my swinger.

First, the chrome strip at the bottom of my back window is coming loose and I don't want any water to get in there because my vinyl top is perfect and I'm really afraid of rust getting under it. So, how does it come off and do I need a special tool? Where do I get the little clips that hold it on (because I can see several are broken)?

Second, I have bought replacement Swinger nameplates and I'm wondering how they were originally affixed and how I should go about putting them back on... I could use an adhesive sticker like the type they use for decals or I was thinking about just using black silicone and then cutting out the excess.... they all have the four posts that are needed, but I can't tell how they used to hang on there...

I think I have seen those trim pieces you speak of on ebay before. You can check there.
As for those nameplates, did they come with studs on the back and those "nut" things to fasten them to the body? When I got my car, all the wholes for the nameplates were covered (except for the hood plymouth emblem). I shaved the studs off and I used 3M plastic and emblem adhesive (clear). You should be able to get this adhesive at a paint store. I went to get touchup paint for my car and got this adhesive at the same place I got my touchup paint.
If you don't get this stuff, make sure that the adhesive you use dries clear. I used some other glues and they dried yellow. Yuck!!!! Still looks good though.

The emblems have speednuts that screw on to the back; if you open the door at a certain angle and are built like a stickman, you MIGHT be able to get them on without taking the fender off...I was only able to get two of them on (yes, I'm pretty skinny) but that was it; AND I had to fish out my mini-ratchet from the bottom of the fender about a million times...

But the four posts on the back of the nameplate don't have any threads... how can a nut go onto them?

And I'm definately not built like a stickman....


Also, I'm not looking for a new trim piece, I want to know how to remove and reattach the one that is there... What kind of ?clips? hold it in place and can I buy new clips?

for the nameplate, i did the following.

in construction, before guys hang anything on drywall, they use these little plastic screw housings. they are about half and inch long, you can find them at the hardware store, tell them you want to hang a shelf and want the plastic housings for screws.

push them into the holes in the fender, and with a rubber mallet, CAREFULLY pound them in.

done.

I never thought to use drywall anchors like that... That's a pretty good idea.

I still need to know about the trim clips... Any idea where I can get them or are they a part of the trim piece?

those trim clips are for sale at laysons. but i would see if you could "pocket" some at the junkyard.
