I'm replacing the entire suspension on a 64 valiant. I plan to lower the car 2" in the front. Should I get larger then stock torsion bars and if so what diameter? It will have kyb shocks if anyone wants to know |

How do you plan to go about lowering the car? Torsion bar adjustment, smaller diameter tires, custom knuckles ... ? Two inches sounds like a lot to me. The one inch I initially took out of my '64 during the suspension rebuild was very noticeable, and not entirely welcome. If you wind up with less suspension travel, stiffer springs would be necessary. You'll need to look at the suspension stops, too, and the alignment and general geometry. I'm running "340" bars, 0.870" diameter, with KYB's and 205-60R15's on 15X7's up front. Firmer ride, but not objectionable. The original bars in mine were about 0.840" diameter. |

I run .840 ....but with lots of shock and a big sway bar . Our roads are really rough .....I run 235/60/14 on 14x8 rims ....24lbs air. My car is lowered almost 2" front and rear. |

I'll be putting an 1 1/8" sway bar up front. I'm going to lower the car with torsion bar adjustment. the front of the car actually looks like it rides higher then it should at the moment. probably an 1" too high. after lowering the rear 1" I think 2" in front should level it out nicely |

2" lower up front and you won't have much suspension travel left. You could always use smaller diameter tires up front........ |

I would recommend 0.870", 0.890", or 0.920" Tbar range depending on how stiff a ride you want. 0.920" are not too bad on my 64 Dart with KYBs. Lou |

I agree with Dart270; going that low, you definitely want some thick ones, otherwise you'll be slamming the bumpstops into the frame. You might even have to shave them a bit or not run any at all (not good IMO)... |

I have .990s in my Dart, but it has a little heavier engine that we usually discuss. You must have good shocks with higher rate torsion bars. |
