I have a clifford intake and shorty headers. Has anyone tried piping in exhaust instead of water to heat under the carb in the intake manifold? It doesn't look all that hard to fab up. I am wondering how well this might work. |

Don't think that'd work so well for ya...it would warm up in a hurry, true, but then it would tend to get much too hot. |

I am running clifford intake and split shorties w/ a 465holley. The only time I use any intake heat is in the winter. those headers throw off so much heat that the intake is to hot to touch after just 5 minutes of idling. as long as your choke is working you dont need carb heat outside of winter driving. My 2 cents. |

I run the exhaust setup on my Hpak, you have to plumb in a box with a limited size intake and out-take to the "heat box" and mount it under the manifold...with the shorty manifolds they are so close to the head, they should warm up pretty quick (and especially if you can provide some temporary heated air- like the thermactor on the stock setup), the Hpak just needs the heat in the winter time... good luck, -D.Idiot |

Well I had my headders ceramic coated so I dont think I will have much heat comming off them. The thermactor gave me an idea. How about a switch! Maybe some thing like a thermal switch off of the water temp that would shut the exaust switch to the intake (something like an air pump diverter valve) at normal opperating temp. Now, what kind of valve vacume or electricly controled will hold up to the heat? An EGR valve! As I sat here and rambled on with my fingers I think I am on to something! |

Run the water, you will be glad you did. In drizzily western washington, you really need some form of heat for the carb. If you don't run any, you will have problems with carb icing, any time the temp dips below 55*. |
