Hello folks, In my recent post detailing how thorougly I had been troubleshooting a brake installation SlantSix Dan came through with the suggestion that I think ultimately will solve the problem. He opined that having a front line / back line swap onto a dual port master cylinder so that the small port fed disc brakes would cause the symptoms. Well, there is another twist! Dan, I am powerfully grateful for the pointer. I didn't know that disc brakes took the larger reservoir as I never had a dual port before. Then as it turns out I was given the WRONG master cylinder, one that had the small reservoir in front of the pair of ports. Because my installation instructions for the disc brake kit clearly stated ""run a 3/16 brake line from the REAR MC reservoir ...to the rear brake". FIne and I did...what happened? Well the MC I was given when I asked for a MC for a'76 Chevy C30 pickup was a Raybestos MC39017. It has the large port on the rear. SO my disc brakes feeding off the front port had the small port and I had followed directions exact ly. This is what will drive each of us nuts. Upon seeing Dan's suggestion (HOW DID HE KNOW THAT!!!!) and knowing I followed directions, I took the MC back and this time the parts store said...uhhh, we don't know what that cylinder is for, you should have a Raybestos MC36306. And sure enough this one has the small port in the rear and the large one in the front. So I am hoping a simple plumb up tomorrow will show everything working fine, and wanted to publicly marvel at Dan's storehouse of minutae and reflect on how what you don't know can ruin you...even when you follow all directions! I am using a proportioning valve too, in case anyone else is doing this, look to the cy linder, not the valve as the culprit. rock '64d100 |

You may want to consider the aluminum MC for later mopar stuf. Like f/m/j bodies. i use this mc on all my a bodies now. Whoops didnt realize it was a truck. I just used the aluminum 82 w150 mc on my old truck, ________ Hiroshima Plant ________ CRETE RECIPES |
