i have been doing lots of searching on here looking at old posts abot this, but im not clear as to what the best donors are ...i have a 74 laying around, 73 sitting on a parts car, and another 73 in the donor engine for dads truck, also one of unknown vintage/make that was in our 64 when we got it, little box under the passenger seat was leaking blue goo the local parts yard has a 77 volare wagon (formerly a supersix) and a 80s d150, i dont know anything about it except it had a aluminum intake, which of those would be best for my two applications?(67 dart gt supersixed, and 64 a100 with 74 manifolds), anyway, read the hei posts, but unclear as whether it was ok to get the at a junkyard, and what to find them and the little yellow harness on, this bypasses the ceramic piece(name escapes me) on the firewall, but not the voltage regulator and i need a mopar hp one? where do i get that? thanks alot, also, the better coil is needed correct? msd blaster?
thanks!

The D150 should have lean burn on it. If I'm not mistaken, you can use it for you HEI application.

There are no parts from a lean burn setup that are worthwhile to use in an HEI swap.

Any slant-6 electronic distributor with a vacuum advance and a 2-wire connector is a good starting point. Recurving is pretty much mandatory regardless of what year and model the distributor comes from, if you'd get maximum performance and mileage out of your swap.

You do not need the yellow GM harness connector.

Better coil is not strictly mandatory but it certainly helps.

Hey Dan, what's your advice on timing curve for a slant? Mine has a turbo, which puts it out of the ordinary, but I am installing an Accel Gen VII ECM, which has a 16x16 timing map, which means I can set this thing up very specifically. What do you recommend? Much of the driving will be naturally aspirated, so everything under 0 vacuum should look like a standard slant timing curve.

You don't need the yellow connector because all you need is the correct-size female spade terminal. Read the second note in this post.

HP voltage regulator...? What are we talking about here? What year is your car, what kind of regulator are you running now, and is your charging pretty steady, or is it flickery?

Timing how-to was the subject of an article DD wrote many years ago. I have transcribed it into electronic form, but it's not posted yet.

Please don't post eBay's dumb extra-long item URLs -- they make the message extra-wide and cause problems for some browsers and a nuisance for readers. Instead, either paste the eBay item number to the end of the universal short eBay URL, like this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0001932993

or just give us a raw item number, like this:
270001932993

Please click the "edit" button in your post and make that change, if you would. Thanks.

You need a four pin module for this conversion, (as is covered in all of the linked articles...please read them carefully.) It is a very, very common module used from 1975 through the early 1990s in many, many GM cars and trucks. The Accel 35361 module in the linked eBay auction will be just fine.
