They are big block Mopar roller lifters that just happens to fit a slant six. The problem is the roller cam to run them on, your choices are limited. |

Can you run roller Lifters on the regular mechnical cam profile? I understand that the roller designed cams have more aggresive opening and closing ramps, but does it hurt your Mechnical cam to plunk in the roller lifters? Can you still run Mechnical Valve train, or do you need to go to the hyd. Valve train? Any racers run the roller lifters in a slant? PS I believe all mopar solid Lifters are interchanable. B-RB - Hemi, LA - Slant. Thanks for info Greg |

You can't run roller lifters on a non-roller cam. The lobes on a roller cam are ground parallel to the axis of the cam while non-roller cams are ground with a small angle so that the lifters will spin in their bores to even out the wear pattern on the bottom of the lifters. |

SlantCecil, Who makes roller cams for the slant?Every cam company that makes them for the B/RB/Hemi. They will interchange with a slant. The LA rollers will not work. The roller body will fit the bores, all are .904, but the tie bar distance is different. Rollers need to run on a steel billet cam. Due to low demand, the cost of cutting the oil pump/dist drive gear on a billet core is the reason there are no generally available steel billet slant six cores to grind them from. Cam companies can grind a slant roller cam from a raw billet without the gear at a somewhat reasonable cost, so some racers have used crank trigger ign and external oil pumps so a gear isn't needed. Recently, the Cox Bros have procured a run of billet cam cores with the gear. The cores they have are all the same so the range of duration, lift and LCA is limited. I have a new set of Comp Cam 829 roller lifters left from my last V8 race car. I have no desire to run another roller. I feel the added cost and work is not worth the performance gain on a bracket car. A solid flat tappet is enough for me. I'll let the all out speed merchants run them. |
