When driving or at idle the factory oil pressure gauge reads in the center. (good) If I shut engine off the oil pressure gauge goes down. (good) If I turn key back on but DO NOT START engine, the pressure goes back to the center. If it sits overnight and the key is just turned on it is at 1/3. If started it moves up slowly to the center. (seems not good)
Your thoughts please.

First step: Remove the gauge sender from its location screwed into the oil pump (pointing rearward, near the base of the oil filter) and install a diagnostic direct-reading, mechanical pressure gauge. Start the engine from cold and observe the pressure reading obtained at idle, as well as how long it takes to get there. Let the engine warm up and keep watching the pressure reading. Report what you find.

Do the fuel and temp gauges, change the same way? If they do, it will be a bad instrument voltage limiter. If not it could be a bad pressure sender, or gauge itself. Since the gauge does read, I would go for the voltage limiter or sender.

Havn't installed mechanical oil gauge yet but will report back.
Fuel gas works (1/4 tank to E seems to last longer than F to 1/4 tank.
Temp gauge works some times. It either works or sticks at the 2nd line from cold.

Dan, I just installed a mech. oil pressure gauge. What would be considered good oil pressure during normal operation?
