I have an engine that was a reman for a parts store. One question I have is with a .100 inch off the head will I have to use or make shorter pushrods.

Another question I have is that there was steel spring seats under the valves. Are these stock. Should I measure the installed height between the head and retainer to see if I need the steel seat. . By the way should I use the Comp cam valve springs I have or use some other valve spring. What is the installed height for the valve spring so I can see if the spring seats have been cut.

My reply is based on a mechanical cam (solid lifter application)
The factory calls out installed height at 1 11/16" (1.6875) Most listings will show this as a 1.700 installed height spring.

For me, what is more important are the open and closed spring pressures.
I target 80 to 90 lbs for "on the seat" and 180 to 220 lbs open at "full lift" spring pressure.

Spring shims are a common and easy way to adjust the spring pressures.
Do not go "overboard" with spring pressure, high spring pressures waste power and parts.

Milling the head .100 will usually allow you to use of the stock length pushrods, you need to set the engine up and check this. If the adjuster screws are up high and loose, buy shorter pushrods
