63' valiant signet Pushbutton three speed automatic........this is all I know about the trani, so my question is what would the going rate to rebuild it, and by the way it works......... just rebuilt the motor and would it be better to just drive it until......? |

My philosophy has always been if it isn't broken, don't fix it. So if the transmission is still in good working order, I would give it a service (fluid & filter change, band adjustment) and continue running it; this assumes it has not been serviced recently. If you discover excessive clutch material or other 'trash' in the pan when you do a service, it may be time to consider a rebuild. My $0.02 -S/6 |

Adding a mild shift kit will help some too. You don't want it to shift so hard that it bangs your head on the dash though. I have one in my 85 Chevy pickup (in it when I got it) and it shifts HARD. It'll bark the tires on the 1-2 shift but it gets pretty annoying after a while. |
