Post subject: | Mini Starter Question |
SSDan and others, I picked up a couple of the ND mini starters, the yard I got these from had one listed as out of a 2001 dakota, and a 2002 full size pick-up. Both of these starters have the nose, but the connection terminals are different than what was shown in the old post by Dan. The terminal adapter is present for the battery, but the solenoid trigger has a single pin plug in connection (see photo). I did get a partial pigtail of wire one starter, but not the other. Can this solenoid terminal be changed? And Dan can you provide me with the Lester Number for the RWD truck van replacement parts. Thanks, Brian |

Terminal options w/numbers and photos are in this thread. Yahoo doesn't like off-network photo links, IIRC. |

I think I know what you mean, Im looking at a later style 97-00' or so that has a pigtail connector for the start relay that faces 90 degrees away from the battery tower towards the front. Good design, but you have to get the male connector boot somehow. I have no idea if the power block can be removed to make way for dans suggestion or not, Ill be finding that out when mine gets here in I guess |

I vaguely recall that I had to remove a connector of some kind to reveal a standard set of plus and negative terminal studs. I also remember the threads are metric, and it was not simple to find hold down nuts for the cables. |

The terminal blocks do come off the starters, so that you can put whatever which type you need on whatever which motor you want.

I just picked up the mini starter from the salvage yard today. ($30) It had no nuts on the studs. I asked for them and they say they don't keep them. Thats not normally to bad when I have the orignal to get the nuts from. But I do not. Sam said he thought they where metric, but do we know what size they are? Push come to shove, I'll take the starter to the hardware store. I asked for the 94 dakota with 5.2 and it did not come with the heat shield, maybe its laying next to the nuts in the mud. |
