Silver Bullet just seems fitting for my truck....and okay, not even close to CAT power, but the color is right!

And the heavy beast ol slanty is pulling around.....finally getting body/paint work this year! Should be going to the body/paint shop by November


Maybe for now I should be calling it the primer/rattle can bullet There are still a couple panels with the original paint!

you should paint the inner walls of the engine compartment black. That will really make the yellow slant stand out. Did they ever paint slants yellow from the factory?

IIRC, the industrial slants were yellow.

Man I'm jealous. I thought an a-body had room around the engine, nothing compared to your truck! Nice.

I still have yet to make new splash shields for between the fenderwell and frame rails. They will be black (made from Semi-truck mudflaps). I have 'test fit' one I made and it brings a lot of contrast into the picture. I would have re-painted under the hood while the slant was out last winter....but it is one of the few places the original paint is still in good condition! (or so i found out after cleaning 15 years of grease/grime/road muck off of it )

Just noticed, which headers are those, and what are they coated with?

Serpentine setup still has a couple of alignment bugs, but nothing major. The slight mis-alignments all seem to "cancel' each other out The 6 rib belt did jump one rib on the power steering pulley a month or so ago, turns out it was due to a spacer pipe I used collapsing partially. Got that fixed, and haven't had any problems since.

My truck is a 1987 D150 (1/2 ton, 2WD) short box/reg cab. Headers are Clifford 3x2, they are coated with a high-temp powder coating, supposedly good to 1300* F. (Done locally)

Added a couple new gauges in an A-pillar pod from Autometer last night...a/f ratio and vacuum. I must be easy to entertain....'cause it sure is 'fun' watching the vacuum gauge while I drive

The Silver Bullet has finally made it to the bodyshop for a much overdue makeover. Driver's side is nearing completion of body work:







Passenger side is getting worked on this week. Then we have to figure out what to do with some tailgate 'wowies'. Everything but the door handles, locks, and factory taillights is being shaved from the truck. New, smaller mirrors will adorn the doors instead of the ugly stockers. More to come...

Too many people who were born on third base actually believe they've hit a triple.

Naw, most of them were passenger-car color (red to '69, blue to '84, black thereafter). The slant-6s in trucks in North America from '63-'69 were yellow, but it wasn't that sharp yellow Super6 used, it was a paler yellow.

Very nice truck! I have to ask, what's up with the valves and the Y on your heater hoses? Also care to dish on the serpentine belt setup?

<edit> I found the info on the serpentine setup. Mine would be more simple since I have manual steering. I'll likely be moving my alternator to the driver's side too, but down low.

I installed the manual valves on the heater core hoses two summers ago when my heater core 'popped' and did not have time to replace it immediately. Shut off the flow, no more leak. They also made it very easy to change the core when I did have time, and allow me to shut off coolant flow to the heater core during the summer so I do not have residual heat blowing through the vents, even with the heater door closed.

The "Y" in the heater hose is a remnant of the circulating heater I used to have on my slant when it was a daily driver. I no longer have the circulating heater installed, but the block is still tapped for the hose, and instead of finding a plug, I just re-attached a heater line. No overheating problems, it seems its not broken, so I am not fixing it.
