hey, i know that you need a different k frame and stuff to do this swap on a car, but i dont know about ram chargers, one in question is a 84, so, if we were to buy this what all would we need to change it to a slant? would it hook up to the tranny ok? its a 4x4 auto, donor motor would be a 73 dart slant with an auto, i know for the swap we are definitely doing, with another 73 dart slant auto into a 64 manual we might need a roller bearing etc...are there any similar differences between the 73 and 84? thanks! |

You'd need the Slant-6 engine mount brackets for the '72-'87 D/W truck and Ramcharger. The trans will not bolt up, slant-6 bellhousing pattern is not the same as V8. |

thanks for the info, where would i find a bellhousing like that? i guess the question is, on what would i find one...are there bellhousings that are already made that would bolt onto a slant and the rams tranny? or would i be looking at getting some work done on it like the people are doing with the t5 trannys? thanks alot! |

As said, the trans will not bolt up. In addition, you will have a difficult time finding a 4x4 slant trans, especially in the automatic flavor. Manuals (NP435 I believe ![]() ![]() -S/6 Edit, does the '84 have an Auto or a manual? If it is an auto, it is a 727. Bellhousings on automatics are integral to the case, so to obtain a slant bolt-pattern, you will need an entirely different transmission. The 727 tranfer case (NP208 - again, I believe) will not bolt up to the tailshaft of a 904, and slant 727's are somewhat rare. (However, there is a guy on http://www.moparts.com (member's name is "Nupe" ) that may be looking to sell his. If it has a manual, you should be able to swap to a slant bellhousing, flywheel, pressure plate, and clutch. But if you find all those, you are probably looking at a complete slant trans, and may as well just use it whole. Check out http://www.ramchargercentral.com for more info on the ramcharger, and to double check my memory of what the ramcharger was equipped with. ![]() |

Reed has a Slant 727 he's been trying to get rid of forever. IIRC, the truck K-frame accepts any engine with the right motor mounts. ![]() |

Motor mounts are the same for a slant and a smallblock V8 in trucks/ramchargers. Crossmember is also the same. Truck/ramcharger slants do have truck specific mount brackets that bolt to the block though.IIRC, the truck K-frame accepts any engine with the right motor mounts. ![]() Here is a picture on mine on a stand: ![]() You can see the brackets that drop the mount points to the V8 location. ![]() |

kind of been there and done that, as far as the 4x4 tranny. I was going 4wd to 2wd. I was dealing with a "married" transfer case, it looks like it is bolted on the back of the tranny, it is not that easy! If your tansfer case is connected by a short driveshaft, it is "divorced" this is easy, just find a short tail, slant 727 and it should hook up. your "doner auto" will likely be a 904 which wont easily work, unless your T case is divorced then it should be fabbing driveshaft and mounts, linkage and such, but it could be made to work. To use a 727, you need to use a slant case and build it with 4wd guts and tail. since you have it all apart, you might as well rebuild it as it goes back togeather. I even bet a few left the factory as a slant 4x4 auto. sounds like a cool project. I have thought about slanting my Ramcharger 2wd, but its not high on the list. it can be done, and even made to look factory hope this helps some good luck tophat |

thanks everyone for the input, this may be more work then we were hoping for, wouldnt mind leaving a 360 in it but with gas prices as they are currently...a slant might be a bit better on that and obviously we like slants, (plus having an extra slant laying around makes you think of lots of projects that could be fun dad had one years ago and we got ran into and it was totalled(nice georgia one too) so, i dont know, if it was cheaper then it might be more feasible, lots to think about, thanks again to all of you for your wisdom, links, etc! |

Bah, my old man had a volari with a slant about ten years ago. There was something wrong with the rear end that he didn't know how to fix. Nor did he have the money. He had it towed off and junked after the land lord complained. Had I not been as broke and had a clue...
