Now that I've got a mechanical temperature gauge as a back-up to the factory electrical, I find it interesting to watch the temps rise after I turn the engine off. The mechanical sender is mounted on the top tank of the radiator. I realize that, when the engine is shut down, the coolant is no longer circulating through the system, but I've never noticed a big change in temp with the stock electric gauge (when I restart after a few minutes). Admittedly this is Texas, and we're in the middle of a little heat wave (100+ temps), but I never realized the temp would climb to 210-215 degrees when the engine's shut off. Is this typical, or an indication of a problem? Thanks!

I don't have a calibrated gauge, but my 225 can peg the needle after good long drive and a short stop.

Heat wave? Bah. It's just summer.

Y'know, I've lived here all of my 40-year life, but I've NEVER gotten used to 100+ degrees. And besides, the heat makes working on cars MISERABLE.

(Although doing the same in January when it's 70 degrees outside is nice!)

It's perfectly normal for the engine temp to rise after shutting the engine off.
