Post subject:  Recommended Water Temp and Oil pressure

I just installed a new set of mechanical gauges. What is the recommended water temperature and oil pressure reading under normal operating conditions?

Thanks

The rule of thumb I've always heard for oil pressure is at least 10psi/every 1000 rpm, but no higher than 80psi at any time. I forget relief spring setting on a /6, but I think it was 45 or 65 psi?

For temp, ideally, I'd expect it to sit 5-10F above the thermostat setting; that shows you've got cooling to spare yet. Running hotter than 210-220F would make me very nevious. Generally, Mopar (last I heard) recommends 180F thermostats for best life & performance, but for emissions some ran hotter. Some very old references said 160F, but later they decided that was too cold.

Thanks KBB

Even in killer Florida heat, my truck has not yet ran over 160 degrees.
As for the oil pressure, while driving it's running around 35lbs and at idle 22-25lbs, of course that's when the oil is good and hot.

Mine is running at 180 with an occasional higher reading when working it really hard in high heat. Like climbing the mountains west of here in 100+ degree heat.

My oil pressure stays at around 58 always, as soon as I start cranking it I can watch it jump up there and it does not matter what I do after that. Idle, highway, slow speeds - 58 hot or cold.

This is is my A108 with the motor recently rebuilt.

Now if I could just get the linkage problems and the timing readjusted :? - way too hot to deal with right now!

Later,
Dan
