I hope no one burns me at the stake for asking this question....... ![]() I'm possibly looking into swapping out my old and near to death /6 for a readily available 318. How much trouble will these be? 1) Will it be a direct swap as in the frame/motor mounts? 2) I have a A833OD tranny, will the bellhousing, flywheel, clutch/pressure plate all interchange with the 318? I would really like to keep the manual tranny, but if it's too much trouble I can swap it out for an automatic. Thanks, Highway |

As this is a slantsix site, you are likely to catch some flack for this question. A better place to ask is http://www.moparts.com. But the short version, the crossmember is fine. You will need a new small block radiator, wiring (smallblock engine harness), and smallblock trans. I do not know if the 833 was ever behind a smallblock, if it was, you could probably get away with swapping bellhousings, flywheel, pressure plate, and clutch (maybe clutch linkage) As I have never done it, I do not know for certain. But I doubt a slant trans will hold up to a smallblock for long anyway. -S/6 |

Transmissions are the same, you just need the small block bellhousing. You can probably get by with the slant radiator, but you'll have to go with universal hoses. VM |

Don't forget you will need to upgrade fuel line, echaust, cooling, braking, suspension, engine harness etc... I firmly believe it would bemore economical in the long run to just find a good runing used six to drop in there. |

for what it's worth I've been there about swapping in a v8 into my duster, my uncle hadabout 45% of a 340 he could give to me. The parts were outragously expensive, the gas mileage would be horrendous, and overall it just didn't seem to important for that amount of power, cause how often do you really get to play? Once in a while weekend. I would and have stuck with the slant six, and put a little bit into a super six (very worth it) and a few other things. Unless you want to go all out on engine, which just get a 360 crate, stick with the six, and make the car nice. also, I got a A-833 o/d too, it'll handle about 300hp, so anything over a stock 318, and you'll need a 8 3/4 rear end to handle the power. |
