my 64 dart is a little to quiet for me. now i dont want a rediculous sounding car but i love the deep glug glug noise that my dart seems to be missing. my exhaust system is relitavly new so i dont want to demolish it. what can i add to it to give it a deeper sound?

If you don't want something as loud as the Flowmaster the Dynomax Super Turbo is a good choice. I even have a sound clip if you want to hear that muffler on a 264 Comp cams equipped 225 with 2 1/4" exhaust.

Send me your e-mail in a PM and I'll send you the file. Thinking back this may have been recorded with a different muffler. It's been over 6 years so it's hard to say. I made a lot of changes in the car through the years. I do know the Dynomax sounded very good.

The sound file is here:
http://home.centurytel.net/thecitychicken/idlerev.mp3

The car is on fast idle until I rev it then it drops back to a more normal idle speed and I rev it up a couple more times to get the sound. I'm pretty sure this was with a generic 2 1/4" parts store muffler. The Dynomax sound was lower, throatier, just darn better.

Very happy with my Magnaflow. Sounds good on acceloration, near silent at 65, slighly "boomy" at 70+. Of course, it may be louder for you since my Satellite is better insulated (not bragging, just fact).

Post subject:  Look at the flo pro fp212 $43, in thread on exhaust

Hi,

Recently a group of us participated in a thread that included consideration of the appropriate length and size of pipes, and that thread followed from one that Jeb was in that got me thinking. I was gonna get what Jeb recommended until I heard the Flo Pro, but I have a truck and my tunable length may be much longer than that of a car. Look at yesterday's thread re. the Flo Pro...mine is not boomy, not raspy, just a deep V8 at all times except the faster you go the quieter it gets... the Flo Pro site has downloadable sound files.

If anyone here has heard an inline six with a good exhaust system from 40 years ago you wouldn't be happy with what's sold now.
I don't have one to play, but a Jaguar, Healey 3000, Maserati, TR6, Aston Martin 6 have a quality that sounds much better than merely loud but I have no idea why. Most have split 6-2 with dual pipes and dual mufflers with resonators. I think the exact placement, box volume, pipe length etc. are all important.
Perhaps a sound clip from a modern in line like the Supra?

No question they are. Tuned Exhaust. Good luck finding a capable shop, though.

The length from the muffler to the end of the tail pipe on the A body cars is awkward whether it is a 6 or v-8. Those 2 1/4" pipes get a standing wave set up in them at 2K to 2.5K that is rather unpleasant. And, there is little room to put a resonator between the springs and the gas tank. Someone suggested muffler pipers like go on the side of a Corvette could go beside the springs behind the muffler, and allow you to open up the exhaust to a bigger size without getting annoying. It is something I am going to look into when I get this thing running again.(I'm almost there!). I have no mufflers on the car at this time, and the turbo keeps it quieter than it used to be with big pipes and mufflers, since the entire pipe resonates. This lengthens the length of the resonating chamber.
