I replaced the rear brakes in the duster less than six months ago, but the shoes appear to be cracking. Obviously they need replacement, but I was wondering if this is a symptom of a problem with the braking system or just crappy parts. Thanks! |

Cracked brake linings = either severe brake overheating or cruddy lining quality. |

When you put on some good shoes(like Raybestos or Bendex), make sure your self-adjusters are working properly and you put in new hardware. |

They will also crack if not adjusted properly when they are initally put on. If you hear the brakes slapping the drums they will likely be cracked when you check them later. AMHIK. ![]() |

I forgot to mention......Check to make sure your wheel cylinders are in good shape as well as your rubber brake line. They can cause the shoes to not return, causing excessive dragging inside the drums. |
