Post subject:  Underdash Harness

The harness under the dash of my 62 Valiant has been fried pretty good. I have one out of a 62 Lancer but it is hard and brittle, most likely unusable. To cut to the chase, I might be able to get one from a 63 Valiant and I'm wondering how difficult it would be to use it in the 62.

That wouldn't be too difficult of a swap. You may have to lengthen some wires and/or change a few terminals. You'll definitely want to add more circuit protection than came from the factory in '62 or '63 (no main fuse or fusible link, even!).

Thanks Dan. At $20.00 it sure beats a Ron Francis job even if I have to spend a few more to modernize it. FWIW I intend to eliminate the high current loop to the ammeter and install a volmeter and oil pressure gauge in a pod below the dash. I might also update the fuse panel as I will need to add some circuits for an audio system and AC. From what I've seen the ammeter loop is the source of a lot of meltdowns anyway.

I prefer to have a working ammeter (I regard voltmeters are considerably less useful), and I'm also sort of a hardnose about original equipment working correctly. I may look into doing this slick mod.

Interesting concept. I downloaded the referenced pdf and will have a closer look at it later.
