Success! The pump and (hey /6Dan!) new line mod are in; no more leaks (yet). The 'hard parts' (fittings) fit better after smoothing.

Thanks to all for the suggestions re: pump access. I was not able
to ease the coil away. I think that it is really stuck. The large bracket
is covered with thick gunk, and I got a faceful when I tried from underneath. Another time, maybe.

Greg. O - you are spot on re: the big crossmember. It is all I saw when
I looked down. I probably have a set of dropped tools hiding there.
(Nice ride you have there, by the way.)

I had to just rachet/universal/muscle the pump in. I hope that I got the torgue right. (Pretty damn tight.)

Problems that impacted me (with the parts that I bought!) - Maybe I just
did not do things in the right order:

1) The R9 hose (250 lbs) is so tough that inserting fittings and filter was impossible w/o using a hand-held heater first and a little oil. The inflexibility also made the 5/16 FI clamps very tough to locate correctly. I had to use light oil and burglary tools. It should last longer than I will.

2) I had problems threading (+/-) the hose fitting in the fuel inlet.
Unclamped, it was so tight that I compromised by using the short steel
carb line after I cleaned it out. Maybe I did not understand something, but this works for me.

3) I did not anticipate having hose-cutting swarf stuck somewhere inside the hose, so I did not thoroughly ream the hose prior to install. This lead to black hose bits clogging the needle seat; then float bowl overflow, and gas dripping out the bowl gasket joint. I had to pull the inlet and open the bowl to clean it all out.

Thanks very much for all your help.

How can I insert enclosed and attributed text from other postings, as I've
seen done? I looked in 'How to Use..' but did not see it.

Don

Thanks for the epilogue on your fuel pump saga. As you progress in this hobby, your skills and knowledge will build one project at a time, and you will eventually become the guy giving advice, just like we all got from others years ago. For what it's worth, I find a single edge razor does a nice job of cutting that fuel line without leaving "swarf" in the eline. Although, I have never tired to cut line rated at 250 psi. What in the world is that for, jet aircraft?

Wow, sounds like you got some odd variant of the 30R9 fuel injection hose. I've never found it anywhere near as difficult to work with as you describe! It's somewhat tougher than the regular 30R7 stuff, but I've never had trouble installing it on fittings or cutting it, etc.

Quoting instructions are Here.

Sam/Dan -

I did use a razor-like big Exacto type. That is why I anticipated a clean cut. Thinking back, I pushed a brush through it but apparently I missed
whatever remained. Live and learn.

Did I say 250 lbs.? I meant 350 lbs. Yes, really. Printed right on it. Sold to me by the local Napa owner and the local franch. pres. Or so I was told.

Neither of whom seemed to know what I meant by FI-type clamps. They tried to sell me small rad clamps. Schucks has them.

Now to check out that dist. adj./wrench link...

Dan - Saw car pics - beyond words.

Thanks again.
