Post subject:  Odd oil leak........

Howdy,

I moved the alternator on El Toad to the port side and when I pulled the original mount she developed a very light oil weepage from the upper (correction, make that the lower) forward mount hole (of the two in the block).

Too deep a drilling on the assembly line? Too long a screw forced in at some time? A factory sealed access that's now leaking? In light of my ignorance these are some possibilities.

I've been unable to find a ghosted drawing of just which oil passage is behind this hole (I believe it may lead to the rockers) so here're my questions;
* Does this portend anything dire (such as perhaps a growing internal crack along some built in stress route) that you've had experience with.
* As I'll likely simply plug'er up with a cap screw and flat washer, should I expect a like development from either the aft hole (in the block) or the upper one (in the head)?
* Would this be usable as an access (say with a final drill through) for an oil tap for some other purpose?

In pre 76 Slants that bolt hole is drilled through to the oil return area in the block.

Just use some thread sealer or thread locker when you put it back on.

Oil return, thus not under pressure, thus explaining the low flow rate. The cap screw'll do the job then and it's not usable for any pressure need.

Thanks for the response, most helpful.
