I dont know if other models have it, but my 71 Duster has a rain gutter deal above the side windows. Well the paint is cracked all down it and it leaks water into my car through the cracks. I wanna sand it down and primer seal it. Does anyone know how I should go about prepping it? Ive never done it before so im not sure on what sandpaper to use and all that. If anyone could give me more information on what grits I should use, or any other tips....it would be appreciated.

I would image that if water is 'going through cracks' theres more than just a cosmetic problem for sure or am I missing something here?

Isn't there sealant in the channel, rather than just paint?

There is a seam there, where the roof is spot-welded to the body... the factory applied a "seam-sealer" there before the body was painted.

It is common for the seam sealer to crack and begin to peel-up, then the rain-water gets in along the seam, stains the headliner, and other evil.

An autobody supply store should have "gutter sealer" in stock...

You will need to scrupulously remove ALL remaining cracked seam sealer and sand, rust-treat and prime the gutters before applying the new gutter sealer...

I have to do this with my '60 Windsor... in my spare time...

Good luck !
