I need help from all you Slant 6 nuts. I am looking for some help in getting my car in the 14's or low low 15's. Right now the best time is 16.48 with a slipping trans. The only thing I haven't really done is head work. I am looking for what you guys suggest for a cam, what kind of head work I need to get done, rockers, what jet size for a 525 Demon Jr. Anything else you guys can think of would be great. Thanks.

It might help the go-fast guys if you'd give details of what you have now (engine, trans, year/make/model, gearing, etc), what's been done (tubbed, stripped, long-rod, ...) and what you want the car to be (race car or street/strip, etc).

First things first you have got to get the trans in good shape and i suggest a manual vavle body unless you drive it over 50 miles one way a day. Then do a base time. You have to solve that problem first. Thanks Ron Parker. :D

Please tell us what you have done. If you have done everything but headwork and are still in the 16's you have built a real pig. Not even Possum can build stuff that slow.

In all seriousness, the first thing I would do is get rid of the Demon carb, but that is just me.

I am partial to the 390 Holley, and I have gone low 14's with one motor only and 12 flat with one on spray.

Headwork done well will wake up a Slant like you wouldn't believe. :D

I going to start out by saying i'm not very motor smart. I looked up everything I got for the motor here is the info.
Car-72 Duster
Engine-73 225 out of a Duster
Trans-rebuild this year 904 automatic with a shift kit
Rearend-out of a 73 Road Runner cut to fit 3.55 gear
Car is not tubbed, not stripped
I would like the car to be street/strip
What has been done to the motor: Bored .030 over, stock crank, deck block .050, head has been cut for bigger values (not sure on size), not sure but on one receipt it says 464 lift cam, solid lifers, high flow oil pump, clifford push rods, ignition, MSD wires, MSD blaster, 525 Demon Jr (I think this carb is to big) 6 into 1 header, Clifford 4 barrel intake, 3 inch exhaust into a 30 series flowmaster with 2 1/2 inch duals coming out (no one knows it's a slant at idle) This is all that I can find and remember.

On a side note I have already had one pushrod from Clifford go bad. The bottom ball was almost completely wore of. I put a new one in and everytime I drive the car hard i have to adjust that value. It is the very back on the exhaust. Clifford thinks I have a oiling problem. Have you guys had this problem or what do you think it could be.

Thanks for all your help. I would love to learn about motors as you can probably tell I have no clue. 14 to low 15 sec car is what I looking for.

I would talk to Mike Jeffrey and see if over the winter, he could do your head work. Mike is the best...he knows what to do. We picked up about two tenths going to a manual valve body from Turbo Action. You might at the same time go to the lower first gear setup ...also available from Turbo. Keep us informed of your progress...Wayne in Chico

If it is wearing the end off down in the lifter, I would suspect a damaged cup in the lifter. If it is wearing the ball off the adjuster, I would suspect the oil passages plugged in that rocker. The fact that you have to adjust it frequently is not good.

The 525 is probably not too big, but you do need more camshaft and converter if you want a 14 second timecard. I ran 14's with about the same cam, but I had 3.91's and a 3000 stall converter.

As Wayne said, Mike J is THE man to talk to about headwork.

It's wearing the ball of the push rod. Does anyone know how i can get in contact with the Cox Brothers? I live like 30mins from there place. I went there like 2-3 years ago but can't find their number.

Thanks
