While researching my camshaft options for my rebuild, I came across this cam on Summit's website.

http://store.summitracing.com/partdetai ... toview=sku

It says that it is an RV cam, but the specs are similar to the Comp 252. I'm curious, though, how this would run in a heavier car like my '60 Dart.

Now keep in mind, I know very little about camshafts...just the advice that I have received from my posts and from perusing past posts here.

And I don't mean to beat a dead horse about my rebuild , I received a lot of good info from my last post that helped me focus on what direction I should go. I'm just trying to look at all my options.

I am going ahead and doing a full rebuild and have a little fun with the motor (don't worry Dan, I'll try my best to keep the "feature creep" to a minimum  ).
My plans are to measure and calculate what i need to do to the block and/or head to get 9:1 compression. I want to stay with the Offy 2x1 and the Dutra Duals.
I'm still planning on having a little clean-up porting done to the head, but I'm a little up in the air about increasing the valve sizes based on the caution from SS Dan about keeping port gas velocities up. I guess that will depend on which cam I decide on, since I also have a lead on a MP 244 cam.

Again, my goal is to put a little more pop in this motor to move this 3500+ lb beast.

Thanks for any and all advice.

This cam looks similar to the MP244 item's specs. I have no direct experience with the Erson item, don't especially like the lash spec of 0.022" on the intake side, though.

Specs on the MP244 are here.

Yeah, Dan, the lash spec. was the one thing that jumped out when I compared it to other makes.

Here again, my inexperience shows...am I right in guessing that the lash spec. is the distance that the valves need to be adjusted to when using this cam?

Quite correct. I'd worry about that 0.022" intake lash making the engine noisier than it could/should/would be with a smaller spec.

Bill, if you are within driving distance of St. Louis, come to Monster Mopar next weekend. There will be some very knowledgable Slant guru's there you can talk to. :D :D

Hm, really? What is reccomended for warm and broken in? Right now I'm running ~.020 all the way around, but I was afraid I might be running them too tight. (Sure has a great lope to it though.)

Hmmm..St. Loius.

I'll keep that in mind. I'm about 6 hours away. I've heard about this show from my uncle. He might even be going. He just finished restoring a '65 Coronet. No Slant, just a big 440/Six Pack. He's just gotta be different.

There is also a BIG show in Jefferson, WI the end of this month that I am definately going to hit. Not Mopar specific, but that is where my uncle found my FSM last year...for $30. Best money I've spent so far. I'm going to try and find a factory parts catalog this year. And maybe look for a deal on an Offy 2x1 intake. :)

Thanks for the tip. That gap will close when the engine warms up, right?

CStryker,
If I recall, your running the Erson 270?

I'd like to get to that Monster Mopar show and possibly hear how some of these Slants run with different cams. I don't have much of a baseline, other than my own car with has the original MP 232 in it.

Northern Illinois.

20 miles west of Rockford, 10 miles south of the Cheddar Curtain.

Yeah, all valve lash settings will close when the engine warms up...including the factory type 010" intake spec.

"Hear" how some of them run...??? An engine can sound tough and mean and develop little usable power, and another engine can sound just like stock and offer brilliant, snap-your-head-back torque.

There is no MP 232 cam. MP = Mopar Performance. Your stock cam is just the 232.

No, since factory lash is HOT... so it would be loose when cold,

as far as erson 270º is concerned. installed a friend's one, mine is still in the box, but I installed his cam, we degreed the thing (first cam I have degreed in my life, always thought that "degreeing" was merely aligning them marks on sprockets... ) and ran it 20 minutes @ 2000 rpm and given lash of .022 wich as you say with engine hot and running was .020... then I took it for a ride and adjusted ex .45 mm intake .40 mm on the loose side. Tested another setting first with .40mm and .30mm in ex and the power was nice but idled not so good so since he's stucked with the 904 I loosened them all around.

Anyway, the erson is a good cam and even having a solid lifter lobe profile, is kinda noisy compared with MP244... but it has more lift and more duration...

Hey Cstryker, did you hook a vac gage? I'm getting steady 18-19 idling @ 800 rpm and around 15 when sitting on a red light brakes on and trans in D. Even given the "low" vac readings, it has plenty of guts before the advertised peak torque... the torque band feels way more stable than the original cam or the MP244 or others I've tried. Stall is stock and gearing is 3.07
The effect I'm seeing in my buddy's car is that when you go off-line with medium-light acceleration, instead of dropping a lot and then as it revs up going up, the vacuum stays kinda in the sme place... and going up.

Yeah...Cool! It's good to know another Slant Sixer in the area. Where I'm at, Ford trucks and Chevy cars are the norm. :P
You ever make it to the Jefferson (WI) shows?

Absolutely right, Dan.

I'm greedy, though. I want both.
