So, the mechanic who's doing my super-six conversion on my 1979 Volare calls me up to tell me of a few "issues" he's having. First is my kick down linkage. I bought a super-six a/t kickdown linkage here on the boards so I thought it would be correct. Well, he says it seems to be missing a piece to connect to the carb. Not sure what it could be. I bought the Holley NOS off of Ebay (the one that was recommended on here) and even with that carb, he says there is something missing AND the choke will not work/isn't correct. No biggie, I guess he can make me a manual choke but I thought that this carb would come complete and ready to function on my super-six! He's called a few parts suppliers in the area and no one carries/makes this choke. Anyone have similar issues with their conversion?

Are you converting from a one barrel carburetor to a two barrel carburetor? If so, the one barrel carburetor choke will not work with the two barrel carburetor. I recommend you purchase one of the improved Carbs Only electric choke kits referenced HERE.

The carbs sold on eBay do not come with the throttle stud that the throttle cable and kickdown linkage attach to. This is a standard Mopar bolt and nut used on v-8 and slant six carbs. you should be able to find one in a junkyard, from a board member here, or I believe restoration parts houses sell them. These special nuts and bolts are not used on one barrel carbs- only two and four barrel carbs.

Did you give the mechanic a copy of a diagram of the Super Six kickdown linkage? Don't assume your mechanic knows how a 30+ year old transmission linkage is supposed to go together.

Reed,
Thanks. Yes, I am trying to do a whole slant to super six conversion. I found a NOS Holley on Ebay that a few of the guys on here have purchased and loved. I thought it already had a choke on it. I didn't know that it doesnt come with that throttle stud. He is fabricating some parts for me so hopefully it will all work out in the end.
