First of, I noticed this big hole above my timing chain today. It has threads in it. Is it supposed to have a plug in it?



Second, I tried to remove the galley plug behind the cam gear and it won't budge. I am afraid that I am going to break the allen wrench off in it. Are these things supposed to be be this tight?

I have the same situation. I have my block stripped down and was starting the pull the freeze plug. I have one of these threaded plugs in the front AND the back of the block. I ruined the tip of my allen wrench trying to break the front one loose.

I thought about getting a hardened allen bit with a socket and see if I can't beak it free with a breaker bar. Just don't want to ruin the plug and have to drill it out.

IIRC, the hole you are pointing at is a drain hole.

To try and break the plugs loose, put a piece of allen wrench in them and whack it with a hammer a couple times. That may break them loose so you can turn them out.

Jeb, As slantzilla has said, The hole you are pointing to in that posted pic is a drain hole to Drain the front lifter Galley and Lube the Timing Chain.

It might have threads in it, but there should be no plug in it.
