Post subject:  Altenator single grove to multi grove

I have an square back dual field altenator that has a single grove pulley on it. Is there a multigrove pulley (serpentine type) available that could be pressed on?
On a side note:
I know theres a tool that removes the pulley but how is the pulley put back on with out a tapped hole in the end of the shaft? I would think just pressing it on in a press without disasembly would damage the case and or bearings.

Yes. A 4-groove serpentine belt pulley was used with the squareback alternator on front-wheel-drive Mopars in the '81-'87 year range (maybe '83-'87).

That's why the pulley gets pressed on before the rear housing is installed!

Do you think there are more grove options available? Like maybe a 6 grove that could be pressed on.

If you want a pulley configuration other than single-vee, double-vee or 4-groove serpentine for the Chrysler '60-'87 alternator, you are looking at custom machinework; none existed from the factory.

You could always change to a different type of alternator, e.g. '88-up Chrysler Nippondenso 40/90, for which there are many different serpentine pulley options (and the pulleys are held on by a nut!)
