I read the post on oil pump priming, it had some good info. I got one of those oil pump shafts but I see it only works on v-6s not slant-6s. I will probably pour oil all over the top and down onto the cam thru the spark plug tube holes. I have thought of making something that screws on the oil filter outlet and pumping oil thru there without having to work the pump. There is lube on the cam and everything already but I dont want any chance of wear on the first start. My engine was assembled by a pro shop and I see the oil pump cover that says "UP" is not pointing up. I am wondering if this is a mistake or could be like that on purpose? The pump was bored out for more flow.
I am also wondering about what spark plugs I should use. I have been told to go colder and see how they manage. I am wondering how many colder. The engine was built pretty much by the Mopar 6 Engine Manual and has 10:1 compression. Has anyone had plug experience with this style slant?

For oil priming:

Pack the oil pump rotor with petroleum jelly. With all sparkplugs removed, and the ignition disabled, turn the engine over with the starter until your oil pressure gauge shows pressure.

Do as Super6 says for oil priming.

Fix the oil pump cover; it has to be rightside up.

Spark plugs: Are you using the head with spark plug tubes (up to '74) or the type without ('75-up)?

Despite the higher compression you almost certainly still have ample room for the NGK ZFR5N extralong-reach spark plugs. Remove all the spark plugs, remove the metal ring washer from one ZFR5N, install it, and turn the engine by hand through one complete revolution. Remove the ZFR5N and check for evidence of piston contact. If none...remove the metal ring washers from the other five plugs and install them, too.
