Post subject:  Pulled my timing chain cover today

I pulled my timing chain cover today and discovered a plastic cam gear that still had all of its teeth but my chain was shot. It was stretched to the point where it was almost starting to rub the cover. I'll post a pic of it tommorow. I also found a wear pattern on the back of the cover that has me worried. I don't kow if it is cam walk or just the worn out chain flailing around, anyway I will post a pic tommorow. I have a bunch of parts degreasing to do and I also need a part number for a microsleeve for my damper. It is severly grooved. Also, what do you guys use to clean your vibration dampners with? I want something that doesn't attack the rubber inside of it. Is mineral spirits okay?

I have more questions but I will post them tommorow and give you guys time to digest that. Stay tuned for pictures!!!

You can buy a timing cover gasket kit with the sleeve. Or you can buy just the sleeve from wherever you buy your parts.

Clean the damper in something that is NOT petroleum based. I really like Zep Industrial Purple. It's like concentrated Castrol Super Clean. Use gloves and don't inhale the mist if you're spraying it! I get it at Home Depot. It eats carbon and oil really well. Just don't use it on aluminum.

NAPA said the gasket set with the repair sleeve was no longer in production. They said they couldn't get the sleeve by itself either. Know of any other sources?

What!? Yeah, I have another source. A counterman that doesn't have his head where the sun don't shine. The timing cover gasket kit with the sleeve is FelPro TCS45255 and sleeves are available as FelPro 16200. NAPA carries Victor/Reinz gaskets so go somewhere else.
