| Post subject: | idler arm replacement |
there are lots of topics on front end rebuilding and good info. has anyone run into the problem of removing the idler arm bolt? when I did my front suspension a year ago, I ended up pulling the engine, then had it rebuilt, so I could get that bolt out. It was hitting the bottom of the engine and there was nothing else I could do! |

I did my lowers, pitman arm, drag link, inner and outer tie rods, and strut rod bushings this past January and had no problems getting the drag link bolt out. |

simple fix... undo the nut holding the motor to the passenger side motor mount. jack up the engine carefully with a block of wood and walla! bolt comes right out... jack the motor right out of the engine mount if you have to. you may loosen the bolts on the cradle a wee bit to get a little more clearance, but the motor mount trick should do it... it worked awesome for me recently. just be careful when lifting the motor or loosening the cradle, thats some heavy stuff that can easy make for a bad day! good luck |

i was mistaken on my last post... undo the nut holding the motor mount to the a-frame and then jack away... its been awhile since i replaced my idler, so i forgot exactly how i did it. itll work great, just jack the motor right out of the a frame on the passenger side and youll get enough clearance to move the bolt up and out. goodluck |

I thought of using a cutting wheel to cut off the bolt head and pull it out, then putting the new bolt that comes with the idler upside down. The only issue would be if the nut came loose the bolt might fall out, but drilling a cotter hole thru the bolt would fix that prob. |

it would probably work but my method really doesnt take much time at all, especially if you have access to air tools... do whatever works for you. good luck! |
