Hello everyone, just wondering, did anyone ever did it's own gasket for rearends? I mean the ones at the end of each half-axle. Someone told me to do it out of a fruitjuice box or something like that... How about that? I can't seem to find them on rockauto or they are really expensive (bearing & gasket set...). Thanks for your help Marc |

I have made them out of 3/32" thick neoprene sheets that you can get at orchard supply or the local hardware store, and I have also bought them in a kit. both ways they have worked excellent and done their job. if youre tight on cash I'd go to the hardware store |

Thanks for your answer. Isn't 3/32" a bit thick? I thought the retainer was squeezing the outer cage of the bearing to prevent it from turning. If it's not then what's stopping it from playing side to side? I'm planning on making my gaskets out of thick drawing paper. By the way, I have removed both half axles but I can't seem to remove the bearing (I removed the collar). If I heat won't there be a problem in case the axle has been heat treated? Thanks for your help Marc |

You need to use a bearing separator and a press, or have it done. You can use silicone instead of the foam gaskets. Make sure everything is nice and clean and don't forget to replace the seals in the housing. |

Right, silicone... So the thickness of the gaskets isn't an issue. Cause' I'm still wondering about how is stopped the bearing in it's hole. |

Oh and another thing : does anyone has part N° for these gaskets? I can't find them on rockauto. Differential cover gasket is the big one right? Thanks for your help Marc |
