has anyone tried the Lokar kickdown linkage with a 4-bbl Holley on the slant? I had a super-six before and Im using that same linkage to the Holley. in stock form the linkage seemed like it was just pushing the kickdown rod downward and not actually moving it. I made a bracket to have the kickdown rod slide back and forth like the trans lever does, but it is kinda sticky. I am thinking of either trying to make a new bracket or just getting a Lokar setup if they work much better. I know Mancini's sells them, but I dont hear much about putting them on a slant. has anyone done this? GREG ONDAYKO -what are you using for linkage? |

also, I already shortened the throttle cable and ran it to the holley on the original supersix bracket, shown in the article on supersix linkage in "articles" |

If you're using a 4 barrel, the lokar cable comes with brackets that should mount it to the rear fuel bowl (although the instructions don't really show it well. I don't remember where I saw the pictures of the brackets in use.) An alternative would be one of the many aftermarket throttle cable/kickdown brackets that just mount on the carb base. As far as the cable itself, I'm running one w/ a Holley two barrel, and it works great. BTW, I got mine from Summit. You might compare their prices to Mancini before you actually buy one. |

I reciently installed a Lokar kickdown on my holley. I did make a bracket to mount the kickdown to my throttle bracket. It took about 20 minutes to install and make a bracket. There is also a "Chrystler throttle lever extension" for holley carbs part#hly-20-7 (summit part number) that I used on mine. |

Here is my Holley & Lokar setup. I lengthed & braced the stock throttle bracket by welding in a new section, and added a simple "L" bracket to the throttle hold-down clamp for the Lokar cable. ![]() Not the prettiest, but I have never had any binding problems, and it works very well. -S/6 |

This is a picture of lokar kickdown, throttle, and bracket - granted its on a GM TBI, but the fit/function is the same as the holley 0-8007 390cfm I got from summit. Went together without any fuss. The arrow points to a screw that tensions the bracket so when actuating the throttle the brakcet doesn't pull itself forward. |

I've installed my 4bl, 904 is now overhauled, and NO KICKDOWN with either transmission, though the kit is correctly installed and two different speed shops could not get it to work as a passing gear. The trans. works perfectly, and downshifts when I stop at stopsigns, etc. However, the only way to shift into a "passing" gear is to manually hit the 2nd button. I think this in endemic in Lokars. You might shop for a different system if you want a passing gear as stock. We've tried every adjustment know to man or beast. Good luck. By the way, my car is professionally rebuilt, turning mid 15's at approx. 95 mph in the 1/4 mile; still, no kickdown for passing gear! |

I can promise that it's not an endemic issue. If installed and adjusted properly, function should be identical to a solid linkage. (Mine is.) An upshot is that it's far, far easier to adjust than the solid rod, as once your in the ballpark, you can do final tuning from only the carb end of the setup.

I've had my lokar cables with 3-4 different setups and it worked well after adjustment. First time around was rebuilt tranny and engine with 4 bbl 8007 holley. Second was with same engine/tranny and GM 2bbl TBI. Third was MPFI using custom bracket and single bbl gm throttle body. Had to rebuild engine and tranny again, and after reinstall it worked fine as well. All the times I've done it I had plenty of adjustment on the carb end, didn't need to fiddle with tranny end. Flyntgr I think your experience is the exception not the norm. Perhaps your professional builders didn't have any experience with the lokar setup? Did you convert the tranny back to the original kickdown and have it work normal? You can temprarily remove the kickdown cable all together and wire the lever half back (or remove it from carb end only and move the stop far back enough it holds the lever in place, and tie the cable to the side), then see if it will upshift on its own. I have a suspicion its an internal tranny issue. |

Was an aftermarket valve body possibly installed in the transmission, and that eliminated the stock kickdown function?
