| Post subject: | Firm feel Rear sway bar |
Hi I am wondering if anyone is running a firmfeel rear sway bar? Any thoughts on it? I have a addco for the front that I haven't put on yet. Is the rear worth the $295.00 price? It looks like a real nice set up. Thank you for your time William |

I'd put the front on and run it like that and see if you think you need the rear. I have one on my 65 on the front and it feels good enough for street driving...and even on the high banks of Texas Motor Speedway at about 80...that was fun. You might want to think about redoing the back springs...with at least some new bushings...new leafs..etc.. I just bought a rear sway bar for my F150 and am curious to see how that helps on a reg cab flareside pickup. |

You can spend $300 in much better places on your car. I have tried rear sway bars and they cause too much oversteer in a car with good rear springs. Most people who have tried them on A-bodies have taken them back off, especially if they are into performance driving or road racing. Lou |

Lou Guess I'm not most people........... I have neutral steer with front and rear Addco bars (1 1/4 3/4). Maybe it's the stock springs............. |

I've been told by a very reputable alignment/frame shop in S. Seattle that the trick to the equation is to have a more aggressive bar in the front (check spring rate of the bar, size isn't everything...funny, I tell the wife the same thing) and a moderate bar in the rear. You'll also have to make sure that the suspension is set-up for the traction of radials,also that the under steer setting and alignment are adjusted for the changes. If not-you'll own one twitchy b*tch of a ride.

Thicker torsion bars and a good set of poly bushings will help, too... |

I bought one I havent installed yet. I've been waiting for the front bar which arrived today. I will say the quality is top notch and the engineering is superb. both kits mount very nicely. Front bar goes on this friday. I will post results then. Rear bar will still have to wait. I believe they are more expensive then their addco counterparts for a reason. These bars are designed and engineered specifically for mopars. besides that they have great customer service. |

Seth, the shop I am referring to is Burien Frame and Axle. They are at about 148th & Ambaum in "Fabulous Burien." Talk to Mike or Jerry- they'll answer your questions, give you suggestions and not rape your wallet. My uncle (Bob Hellene) and his buddy (Ken Wakefield) send all their hotrods to them. Every car I've owned the last 15 years has gone exclusively to them and never once have I had a problem (my cars still go there, and I live out in Redmond now). |
