Well the Volare is in the body shop (finally) and Ive been busy on Ebay looking for"deals" on things that I need to get for it. Among the deals that I see out there so far is on shocks. There is a place called auctionfrontier out of Atlanta that sells all kinds of auto parts. Most are aftermarket occasionally theyll sneak something NOS out there. Anyway, I see that they have 2 different kinds of front shocks available for my beast.
They have monroe Gas magnums, teh yellow ones, for $13.60/pair. Ive used these before with good success. They also have a pr of KYBs for a whopping dime less per pair. Ive never used KYBs before, Ive usually used Gabriels occasionally Monroes. What do you guys think of the KYBs?
I have E mailed them to see what if anything they have for the back.
I remember seeing someone having others incl all the brands listed above, upwards of $30 EACH. By the pix associated with each auction, both the Monroes and the KYBs have lived on the shelf a WHILE, judging by the box designs.

Get the KYBs, for sure. Don't know if KYB make their cheaper GR-2 line for our cars, but their Gas-a-Just units are excellent.

Since the older KYB Gas-a-Just shocks are considerably stiffer than the newer ones you may want to pass. I knew a guy that joked the old KYBs were chrged with concrete. The yellow Monroe shocks were fine on my '77 LeBaron. That's the only FMJ body I've ever bought shocks for.

Oh, that's interesting about old vs. new KYB Gas-a-Just shocks. Any idea how old is "older"?

I'll see if I can find out.

KYB's are stiffer, but they are from what I hear the best low-buck performance shocks you can find for an A-body. They're what I use on my Dart. I figure if it's good enough for Mopar Action's Green Brick, it's good enough for me.

Although I'm thinking of going to Rancho RS9000 shocks to get adjustability sometime soon if I start autocrossing.

We have kyb's on our 71 swinger and on our 69 chevelle wagon. They are what I would call comfortably firm, but not too harsh at all. The two are quite different cars but the shocks work well on both. Our Swinger has stock torsion bars and tired 5 leafs in the rear. I have new 5 leafs and .92" bars that are going in soon so I will see how they work with that in the near future. The first front pair on the wagon failed early, but they are lifetime warranty and were replaced for free. So keep your receipt. I have used them on other cars in the past and they always seemed to last forever. I do remember them being much stiffer shocks back in the mid 80's.

Edelbrock IAS shocks are my all time favorite shock so far, but may be more than is needed for a stock application. They also run about $70 a piece. I wish they made them for more applications (they mostly do "old" cars).
