Can a double grove damper be replaced with a single grove type? Both are forged cranks.
The timing marks are on opposit sides. Can the single grove damper's timing a cover be also swaped to correct this problem.
Basicly I have a '64 engine with a single grove damper that I'd like to use on an engine that had a double grove damper. (this engine is still being decoded, but should be '68-'75)
Does anyone see a problem with this damper and cover swap?

There are no double-groove or triple-groove dampers, only single-groove. If you find extra pulleys, look closely: accessory-drive pulleys were are bolted to the damper with three screws. The front accessory pulley is for power steering, and the rear is for A/C.

You can use the early damper w/driver's-side timing mark if you either use the early (bolt-on) timing indicator tab or make a new TDC mark to match up with your later passenger-side timing indicator tab.

Ceej and I visited pick-a-part a long while back and I had a triple groove damper off a forged crank 225 in a 1973 Dart pulled. I suspect with the 'balancing' drill marks in the outer ring, the slant had to be a transplant out of an industrial application as it was yellow, and the balancer must be a Big block unit (it had a bolt in the crank too)... It resides on my work bench as a "conversation piece".

It shouldnt be a big block dampner, although I guess it could be but I found listings where you can buy them on the two & three groove Slant Six dampners.

Three groove is listed as 67 - up Industrial.
Two groove is listed as 69-up Passanger

I ndustrial Slants used multi-groove dampers. I had one off a Yale forklift that had 3 grooves in it.

Looking at my "multi grove" damper again. It looks like there are two pulleys with the damper pulley sandwiched inbetween them. The front pulley can be removed by removing the center bolt and the three little ones. The rearmost pulley looks like the damper would have to be removed then the three bolts to remove this pulley.

Yep, you do need to remove the damper to remove the rear accessory drive pulley.

Seen them often - this is the damper that I've machined to accept the magnets for my crank position pickup. I've got a spare lying on the bench.
