Paging DD! Did you ever get a chance to try more carburetor on the stroker 260? I seem to have this sterling opportunity with a core DusterIdiot presented me during a flurry of trading.. My Dart with the blown hole is coming over the pass before the snow flies, and it looks like the old man down the street took my "I'll buy it if you get a title." statement seriously. It looks like I've got a mid sixties pickup. Time to build some motors... CJ |

All-righty then. The cores are in getting tanked. I was quoted $200 on the 4.5" weld and grind. I asked for standard bearings on the rods. They said no problem. I'll get back with the actual prices once they figure out which way is up. Gonna need DusterIdiot's expertise with the Die-Grinder on my backup head soon! With the stock rod, the ratio comes out at 1.488 on my calculator. Have you had either engine down to inspect for wear? Is there enough room in there for the 7" rod? My math says no, but I went to school in Oregon too. It'll be a couple of weeks till I have all the information back on block suitability for the 3.485" bore. Are machine shops busier than they used to be? DusterIdiot: What were the oversize valves that you opted for in your long rod head? You told me, but my brain leaks.... You knew that. CJ |

If you get a crank welded and ground for $200 and it is not cracked to hell, I'll take three! Good luck on the project, Lou |

Yeah. I'm thinking the young man at the counter hasn't dealt with a crank grind of this sort before. I may get a phone call from the machinist doing the work with a different price. If not, we'll have to figure out how to ship the darn things. Heck, I'll have a couple more done myself! CJ |

I was just quoted $450 for the crank work (4.5) As for the 198 rod they won't fit with stock or 2.2 pistons. We're going to try to fit them with custom pistons. We're waiting for the crank to come back to know for sure. |

FYI... 4.44 stroke fits the RG block with little to no grinding, 4.50 takes a good amount of fitting / grinding work and the smaller 12 point con rod bolt nuts to get clearance. Having done stroker SL6 cranks both ways, I feel the extra .06 of throw is not worth the extra work needed to make it fit into the block. Said in old school terms, it is better to stroke a SL6 crank 5/16" rather then 3/8" in order to save yourself a bunch of block grinding work. DD -------- PS I will also buy a few welded and reground SL6 cranks for $200.00 so tell me where to send the cranks and the check! |

www.sivalves.com sold me one set of their OS valves and they are very nice...if I had a bigger wallet to draw from I would opt to have a bigger set custom made.... good luck, -D.Idiot |

Heh! Gotcha! The guy that quoted it made a qualification today that he'd have to get back to me on the price. Probably didn't have a good picture of what we were actually doing. 4.44" sounds like a better set up at this point. I'll work up the #'s and see where that puts me. Thanks DD! I'll look into the valves DI. Probably not going to go custom. Cash flow is a bit limited since the whole Alfa shindig. OK! 254 cu inches, 1.509 rod Ratio. Better! That's where we'll shoot! CJ |

My builder is charging an extra $75 to grind the block to fit the 4.5 stroke. |

Yeah CJ,The cores are in getting tanked. I was quoted $200 on the 4.5" weld and grind. I asked for standard bearings on the rods. They said no problem. I'll get back with the actual prices once they figure out which way is up. CJ I talked this over with one of the racers here and this process gets pricey. I would expect spending somewhere in the neighborhood of $1000 before it's all said and done what with the welding and machining, balance work, etc. These guys can do it, but shipping would be a killer on top of it. The key is finding a shop that is really qualified with this process, not really cheap. Good luck though. I'm with Doug and Lou on this. I have a stack of cores that would be $200 strokers if the price is right! -James |
