Ok I plan on swapping from a 3 on the tree to an auto. My first question is what all do I need to swap over to the auto? Do I need to switch drive shaft length? What about the yoke, starter, and crossmember? I found an a904 out of a 72 cuda /6 I'm told its in very good condition and its certainly priced right, will this work on my 75 duster? Also what's the difference if any between the 904 and the a904? I'm new to the mopar thing so I'm not to familiar with the tranys that are available.

Thanks for your time,

Pvt Davidson

The trans will bolt right in. Same starter, crossmember, driveshaft, yoke, etc. An A904 is a 904. Most folks don't bother with the A prefix.

Actually the slants six trans is a 904 G, while the V-8 is the 904 LA. Then the heavier duty versions were the 998 and 999 for the v-8 only. Some of the 998/999 parts can be installed in the slant six case, to increase the torque capacity, but not all. The double wrap 1st/reverse band cannot be used in the slant six case. But you are correct about most folks not bothering with the letter.

Id like to I really would. Eventually I wana put a 5 speed but I need this car running asap and I cant find the shift linkage for this 3 spd. So the auto will have to do for the time being. The army quit paying in gold ooh bout 230 231 years ago so the economics of it all are a big factor.

Thanks,

Davidson

Ps. Will a tc for a small block work with the /6.

Yes, as long as it is from a 904 and has the correct input shaft spline count.
